Highway 1 (the Ring Road) is 1,400 km long, and links virtually all major towns around Iceland. It is the country’s main inland transportation artery for passenger travel and freight. Highway 1 is kept in good condition and open year-round. Snow is cleared daily during winter.
Highway 1 runs through the location at Varmahlíð but does not cross the town of Sauðárkrókur. Connections from Sauðárkrókur to the Highway 1 are through road no 745 west, and road no 75 east. Both roads are in construction at a pair with Highway 1 and are well serviced and kept open year round.
All the major trucking and transport companies in Iceland service Skagafjörður mostly in cooperation with the local transport company of Vörumiðlun ehf.
